Take Action Against Global Warming

image

From the Take Action section of the website www.climatecrisis.net

Do something to help stop global warming. 10 simple things you can do plus how much carbon dioxide you'll save doing them.

Change a light Replacing one regular light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb will save 150 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

Drive Less Walk, bike, carshare or take public transit more often. You'll save one pound of carbon dioxide for every mile you don't drive!

Recycle more You can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide per year by recycling just half of your household waste.

Check your car tyres Keeping your tires inflated properly can improve gas mileage by more than 3%. Every gallon of petrol saved keeps 20 pounds of carbon dioxide out of our atmosphere!

Use less hot water It takes a lot of energy to heat water. Use less hot water by installing a low flow showerhead (350 pounds of CO2 saved per year) and washing your clothes in cold or warm water (500 pounds saved per year).

Avoid products with a lot of packaging You can save 1,200 pounds of carbon dioxide if you cut down your garbage by 10%.

Turn down your thermostat Move your thermostat down just 2 degrees in winter and up 2 degrees in summer. You could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year with this simple adjustment.

Plant trees A single tree will absorb one ton of carbon dioxide over its lifetime.

Turn off electronic devices Simply turning off your television, DVD player, stereo, and computer when you're not using them will save you thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

Spread the word! Tell everyone you know about these simple ways to Take Action!

    STITCHER'S VERSE

    Cross-stitchers are a different breed
The things we hope for, the things we need.
We wish for floss to finish that row.
We sometimes wish our guests would go.

We wait all day for that time to be
That special time- that time for ME
Each needle is threaded, the colors arrayed,
Scissors and chart have been carefully laid.

Now we relax, this is our pleasure
Stitching this piece of soon to be treasure.
We always ignore that mental warning
Stitching all night makes it rough in the morning.

But time's unimportant, we don't heed clocks
We just need floss and a sewing box.

I will work twice as hard next week to make up I promise....

Also reading an excellent book at the minute called 'the end of Mr Y' about a 1/4 of the way through but tloving it a real page turner for me....

I have just got to get Un finished which is May .... so fingers crossed.. I didn't get much photography done over the last few weeks.. which is rather a set back to things but hopefully now the jetlag is starting to wane I might just get back into gear....

Cross Stitch so far

2008
I am still working on Taj Mahal Chateliane as you can probably see by the above photo's I am also interested in starting some smaller projects in between and have started a little Humphrey's corner ornament that was a kit, and I have just had three Mill Hill Beads ornaments come in through the post this week. Mid July SMF fabrics have gone out of business very suddenly image she was hacked... and everything obliterated and all monies stolen!!!! image image Must believe in Karma, must believe in Karma...... going try and finish Taj by the time I go back to Uni, better go get stitching....

2007

May Started Taj Mahal, June still workin in Taj Mahal Progress pics are above. At first I thought it was going to be a UFO as it was such a slow grower and so difficult to understand what to do next.... but I pushed through and we make progress slowly so I am happy to keep plodding for the time being..... I am also excited about starting to the Taj's themselves. Which is going to be fun....

Don't like most of these fabrics on arrival for the intended projects.... bit annoyed about that.... but I will use them I think with other projects. The origianl fabric I choose for Cinderella was shimmering fairy's eve, which I have now used on Witchy Washy instead and it's looks fab.... so I will just have to change things around as I go.

image Finished Bessie P. Gutmann's Happy Dreams, so I am also kitting up Mirabilia's Cinderella, and the Garden series just waiting on the fabrics to arrive... Fabric Arrived for Cinderella no idea what to use for the Garden Series yet... image

I do like your Taj Mahal. Your making good progress with it. When I see more of it I keep thinking: perhaps, once when I have more time...
And on my wishlist are the Knotgarden and Indian Summer Reflections already.
Don't know when the Japanese Box comes out again.
I like the online classes; they are a kind of drive too keep up. Although I am far behind with the Celtic Mystery now...

I did something with photobucket and it worked for me.
This way I can add photo's from different sections of our computer and resize them.
Some off them are too big for images I discovered.
You'll have to wait some time before you can add the Victorian Garden to your stash: the chart will not be releized within the next year or so.
So time left for some finishes...

    Reply from Dizzy Xstitcher:

Oh no another wait! Do you know when the Japanese Box will be out, I haven't as yet tried doing one of the online classes, are they an easier way of stitching the designs? I have just added another progress picture of Taj Mahal to my blog... I shall keep my eye out for the Victorian Garden design....
